TROUBLE FROM THE START

Selah was a strong-willed little bean long before she even entered this world, and she proved it with the fight of her life during her first few days.

We outlined that journey in a blog post when she finally came home.

Due to the myriad of concerns and treatments starting on day 1, the infant genetic testing process couldn't give an all-clear result from the beginning.

Her first test raised a potential false flag for SCIDs, which was determined to be an error a few weeks later. However, we ran into a similar issue again at the 6-month follow up where we were given an all-clear only to be met with uncertainty a week later.

Finally, the week before Christmas, the genetic testing clinic called again with good news after their immunology director reviewed her blood work. They confirmed our suspicions and gave us the best Christmas present new parents could ask for, an all-clear on a potentially devastating diagnosis.

Thankfully, aside from the traumatic introduction to parenthood of month one, life with Selah has been a smoother introduction to parenting than we anticipated.

Selah is vibrant, joy-filled & curious. Though she faced more than her fair share of trials in 2020, she still spent most of her year laughing, playing & learning.

She's already showing an interest in music as she's always keen on playing with her musical and sing-song toys.

When it comes to her pup, Stark, she's got no fear.

Thankfully, she's got little reason to fear as he loves having her around and is quick to walk away if he gets annoyed.

With all she's been through, we've been extra cautious, but that hasn't prevented her from getting out and exploring with us this summer

She's an explorative little problem solver keeping us on our toes as she's already pulling herself up and walking along with objects when she isn't scurrying across the floor and attempting to escape under baby gates as fast as she can.

Her first full year isn't even over yet, and she experienced so much. We're excited to see what 2021 has to offer and hope if you haven't yet, you'll be able to meet her soon.
